Want, de CO<sub>2<\/sub> die wij in de afgelopen decennia hebben toegevoegd aan de atmosfeer is niet in \u00e9\u00e9n keer weg. CO<sub>2<\/sub> wordt namelijk niet afgebroken in de lucht. Bij een gelijke CO<sub>2<\/sub>concentratie, kan de opwarming nog verdubbelen. Dan gaat het overigens wel om eeuwen of duizenden jaren later, maar in de eerste 10 tot 50 jaar moeten we dan rekening houden met ongeveer een halve graad extra opwarming. Dat is dus als we vandaag stoppen met CO<sub>2<\/sub> uitstoten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-a95afb5e-ea83-4aa2-a2b9-f23dc0df6f34\">De CO<sub>2 <\/sub>concentratie blijft overigens niet exact gelijk als we nu stoppen met uitstoten.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-8c1eabc8-2692-48e6-bd53-95e9031c2781\">De oceanen nemen een deel van onze CO<sub>2<\/sub> uitstoot op \u00e9n 90% van alle extra warmte veroorzaakt door broeikasgassen. In een eerdere fase zou er ook nog wat CO<sub>2 <\/sub>worden opgenomen door bossen. Maar, zowel de bossen als de oceanen raken uiteindelijk verzadigd. Er ontstaat dan een nieuw evenwicht, waarbij er over duizend jaar nog steeds sprake is van een 20% verhoging van de CO<sub>2 <\/sub>concentratie als we nu stoppen met CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-48b40278-48bb-44a2-9999-4ef0473b0195\">Negatieve CO<sub>2<\/sub> uitstoot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-dd698424-f207-41e2-8089-39cc83d79fd4\">Helaas lukt het niet om nu te stoppen met het uitstoten van CO<sub>2<\/sub>. 30 jaar (2050) lijkt al een erg optimistische doelstelling. Dat betekent dat de CO<sub>2 <\/sub>concentratie en dus ook de temperatuur eerst nog verder zal stijgen. Met als gevolg extremer weer, verlies van biodiversiteit, smelten van de ijskappen en zeespiegelstijging. Afkoeling is nodig om de gevolgen te stoppen.
