BFC | Educational sports facility
Designed by Will Alsop, the new 4,000 sq m Carnegie Pavilion in Leeds, Yorkshire, is a multi-purpose building that operates as a university teaching facility during the academic year and as a cricket pavilion and media centre during the summer.
The Carnegie Pavilion has been constructed for dual use, however, the majority of the time is allocated to teaching. The building accommodates up to 800 students at any one time. The facility is used by Hospitality, Retail and Tourism students from the Leeds Metropolitan University.
The newly built facility was finalized in June 2010. It includes a media centre, upgraded player facilities, premium hospitality suites and associated facilities. The new hospitality suites and media centre have been designed as lecture theatres and teaching space.
These elaborate multi-purpose facilities rely on their hot water provision on the BFC120 water heater from A.O. Smith. The BFC120 is a fully room-sealed condensing high-efficiency water heater (97% gross). The current generation BFC water heaters is equipped with an automatic gas/air premix burning system including burner modulation. This considerably reduces the NOx emission (≤ 30 ppm dry–air free, NOx class 5) and the noise levels (<45 dB(A) at 2m distance from roof duct) – making them a very environmentally friendly, powerful and reliable hot water solution.
