Over at this location a BFC Cyclone with a plate heat exchanger were installed. The hot water is used to clean the robots and the milk tank.
- [Mini camp site](https://aosmithinternational.com/projects/sge-theta-dual-service-mini-camp-site/): At this recently opened mini camp site an SGE with 5 collectors and a plate heat exchanger were installed. The SGE gas-solar water heater supplies the 8 showers and wash basins in the bathroom with hot water. The plate heat exchanger is used to convert the heat from the sun into underfloor heating which warms the shared living room.
- [Council offices](https://aosmithinternational.com/projects/solar-system-indirect-its-council-offices-hot-water/): The existing Ponsonby Building next to the Stockport Town Hall was refurbished so 450 staff are now housing in a stylish working environment with a welcoming reception, new counters, conference rooms and refreshment areas on each floor. Smith Group from Kirkham has installed 12 solar collectors feeding an ITS 1000 from A.O. Smith to meet the hot water needs for the Council offices.
- [Nursing home](https://aosmithinternational.com/projects/its-indirect-solar-system-nursing-home-boiler/): In solar configuration, an ITS indirect tank provides solar thermal energy when combined with a boiler. The ITS is fitted with 2 coils. In solar configuration the upper coil is connected to the primary circuit (boiler) whilst the lower coil is connected to the solar circuit. The top coil after- heats the water if the solar contribution is insufficient. The lower coil transfers the solar contribution which is collected by the solar collectors.

In the solar alignment the upper coil is connected to a water heater or boiler. This water heater or boiler provides the pre- or after heating if the solar contribution is not sufficient. The lower coil of the ITS transfers the heat from the collectors. This indirect solar system has a high comfort level because the water heater or boiler as well as the collectors transfer the heat to the ITS.

In the SGE, the solar heat exchanger is directly integrated into the condensing water heating appliance. This makes the SGE eminently suitable for medium sized commercial applications in which space is restricted.

The building, which also utilises exposed thermal mass and locally sourced natural materials, has been awarded BREEAM Excellent rating. It was also awarded the North West Regional Construction Awards 2009, environmental Sustainability category; highly commended.

Smith total-solution; a SGS solar water heater with IT storage vessel is a perfect example of a sustainable solution. The intelligent solar control of the HE system ensures maximum efficiency. Even with little solar input the required hot water temperature is guaranteed by the gas burner which operates as a back up system.
- [Primary care centre at Lytham](https://aosmithinternational.com/projects/sgs-solar-systems-primary-care-centre/): The new centre provides a more welcoming and up-to-date environment significantly improving patient access to both primary and secondary care, with outpatient services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, health education, mental health services, family planning. One of the main benefits of the centre is that it allows some GPs to perform minor procedures in the surgery that might otherwise have meant a visit to hospital saving the local residents a trip to hospital.

Besides the intelligent solar installation these systems are often equipped with a patented drain back system. This system prevents stagnation temperatures from occurring. During weekend days and holidays the use of hot water is limited. Therefore the heat of the collectors can not be transferred to the water stock in the water heater(s). This is when stagnation temperatures can occur.
- [Centenary Pavilion Exhibition Centre](https://aosmithinternational.com/projects/bfc-centenary-pavilion-exhibition-centre/): The Centenary Pavilion is the new exhibition and conference centre at Elland Road in Leeds (home of Leeds United football club), and was opened in October 2010. It is now the largest dinner facility in the region (catering for 1600 people theatre style and 1400 for a dinner). The premises can be divided into 2 smaller suites, each of them named after Leeds United club heroes. In this new pavilion A.F. Connell Ltd., Halifax West Yorkshire, has installed 2 BFC 120 water heaters from A.O. Smith, allowing for a maximum comfort and minimum energy consumption.
